two elle!

pants: cheap monday from two elle, sweater: john varvatos for converse from two elle, shoes: shi, rings: forever 21, earrings: vintage

tucked away in a little corner in nashville is a mecca for all things plaid and converse. from marc jacobs to steven alan to john varvatos - they've got it all.  i sat down with rachel lowe, the owner of the fabulous boutique called two elle and she answered a few questions for me:

How would you describe the style of clothing at two elle? Does it reflect your personal style?
I’ve always described the style of Two Elle as retro collegiate. I think we give a nod to classic Americana while infusing a bit of an edge. This mix of preppy with street is very much my personal aesthetic, as well, but I tend to take things a little too far for the average Nashville eye.

What are your must have pieces for the fall/winter?
First of all, I love fall! I think that what I love most about fall is layering, both in terms of layering pieces and layering patterns and prints. We have a lot of Steven Alan plaid button-downs, so those are great for layering with different prints or color patterns. We’ve also started designing our own screenprints for American Apparel tees, so they’re super soft and cozy under layers. I’m also liking the idea of layering dresses over denim leggings and under a sweater or cardigan. I think that an easy dress under a sweater with bright-colored tights and Chucks is my uniform for fall.

What pair of Converse shoes best describe you and why?
OK, that’s a really hard question for a girl whose closet looks like a Converse stockroom. However, I’m going to go with the sequin snow leopard hi-tops. They’re a classic Converse shape but with a snow leopard print and covered in sequins. You can’t go wrong with all that flash!

Will you be opening an online boutique anytime soon?
At this point the online store is still just a dream in the works, but you never know. Stay tuned by visiting our blog at www.twoelle.com and feel free to email info@twoelle.com with any requests!

What are your absolute favorite pieces in the store right now?
OK, first I have to mention the crazy deal we’re doing on Steven Alan plaid button-downs, because we have them at $49.99 for both men AND women! But aside from that, I’d say the Built by Wendy black polka dot dress is my favorite piece in the store right now for women. It’s light enough that you can wear it in the spring, but it looks great layered under an oversized Wildfox sweatshirt and worn with Chucks or boots. Now, for men, we have a great Marc by Marc Jacobs jacket, but I personally think that Converse make the man. The Converse by John Varvatos are truly my favorites for men.

hope you all had a great weekend!

zarna

Your hair is so fierce! I love it :)

I haven't worn chucks with anything but jeans to anything but my coffeeshop or photo lab jobs since I was like fifteen. I did go through a really long skirts+chucks phase. I don't feel like I'm quite ready to go back to that look just at present, but if I ever do, snow leopard sequin chucks sound like the right way to go!

Great interview :)
